It’s been quite a while since I posted here and a lot has been going on. Among the top news is that way back in June of 2019 I got the phone call from work that I had been dreading for quite a while. Oracle had been downsizing for sometime worldwide with big plans to bring everyone back into the office and relocated teams to “low cost” locations. You can call San Diego many things, but “low cost” isn’t one of them. I found myself unemployed after nearly 20 years of loyal service.

Not to be deterred, I stayed optimistic and applied for many positions, several of which looked very promising. I made it into the final interview rounds with a half dozen or so when COVID-19 hit.

The Pandemic was unlike anything any of us had ever seen. On top of that, it seemed like the world was going mad with politics pitting friends against one another over issues I thought had long been settled civilly. I continued to focus positive energy towards getting new job and improving my skills. I took classes in video editing, photography and metal smithing. I used the time to build up the infrastructure of Sonic-Rocket, my studio. We cut back expenses and used retirement money to weather the storm and everything seemed to be ok. Better than I had expected.

Back in May, I got hired at ASG Technologies. It’s a great job at an excellent company and I’m really pleased to be part of it. The job is quite different than anything I’d done at Oracle, but I’m definitely up for the challenge and extremely interested in the part of the industry that is ASG’s central focus. I’m enjoying it so far. Great team, great money, great boss. That’s a trifecta I’ve not experienced in a very long time.

I have not felt much like making music for a while, perhaps it seemed like an extravagance that I couldn’t afford or perhaps partly fell into the category of “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything.” Contributing to this feeling was that several of my bandmates got busy or moved leaving me without my favorite musical coconspirators. My buddy John Saccoman is still as close as ever and has been wonderful in helping to keep me sane during a time when sanity is in short supply. Thank goodness for John.

Now that I’m back at work and the world seems to be at least a little less crazy, I’ll probably get motivated again. I know I have some plans to make some music videos, and some lyrical snippets that I can turn into new material. Easier to think about this now that I have a paycheck and am a lot less convinced the world is coming to an end.

During the downtime, I did a few woodworking projects. Right now I’m putting the finishing touches on eleven six inch square boxes. Our Jack Russell Molly is getting pretty close to the end of her road. Sweet little thing is nearly blind and struggles badly to get around. When the time comes to end her misery, I didn’t want to bring her ashes home in a tin can. I will use a couple of these boxes for personal pets and donate the rest of them to my local Animal Hospital where I know the gesture will help ease the pain of other animal lovers when the time comes. I’ll post pictures when I’ve finished.

That’s all for now. I promise not to go so long between posts the next time. I plan on reworking the entire ChristopherCash.com site to be geared more toward my artistic endeavors more generally as I’m not sure how much more band work I’ll be doing in the foreseeable future.

Tootles.

Johnny “Dragonballz” Saccoman

I just wanted to give a big shout out to my best friend John. He is the smartest guy I know and has so much heart. I am truly blessed to have him as a friend.

One afternoon he told me he had an old bass body in his garage and he was thinking of bringing it over to let me have my way with it. I asked him what he had in mind and quizzed him a little on colors and style.

I had never done anything quite like this one… came out ok. The best part was the big smile on John’s face.

Aztec Fun

Just wanted to report that we had a lot of Fun at Aztec Brewing last night. Great gig. Ron Franklin and Tim Lewis were terrific as always. Bruce and the Soul Seekers were outstanding as well. My new band made me feel ten feet tall. Thanks to all who came out and enjoy the evening with us.

New Keyboardist Needed

Words can barely express how sad it makes me to say it, but Shea Thompson has left the band. He will continue his role as recording engineer at Sonic-Rocket, but other responsibilities have made it necessary for him to abandon his role with The Brilliant Deductions. Heartfelt thanks to Shea for all he has done in the past to help us with our music. We will be forever grateful. So, in the immortal words of Albert Einstein, "In the middle of every difficulty, lies opportunity." This could be an opportunity for you to be part of our group. Reach out directly if you are interested in talking more about it. Below is what we are looking for:

Keyboardist / Collaborator wanted
Established original band in North County is in search of a keyboard player to collaborate with song writing, recording and live performance. We have an excellent recording studio and top players. This is a recreational project so we’re not looking for hired guns.

Ideal person will be a mature individual seeking a creative outlet where we can make some great music together and have fun doing it. Style is Adult Alternative / Brit-Pop. Oasis, Jellyfish, ELO, Tom Petty, and of course The Beatles, Many of the newer melodic, lyric-oriented pop artists are very cool too. The style of keyboard playing that would fit well with what we do is along the lines of Steve Nieve (Elvis Costello) or Tim Finn (Split Enz / Crowded House). You don’t need to be a killer keyboardist to be considered. It’s more about finding someone who fits in with our vibe. We have great gear (Korg Kronos X) that you may use so all that is required are chops, dedication and imagination. Singer preferred! Who doesn’t love a band with great harmonies?

We rehearse weekly at our recording studio in Fallbrook. The plan is simple: we keep writing and recording original material until we’re ready to release an album. We promote the band by playing a few local showcases (San Diego/LA) each quarter then rinse, repeat. No deadlines. No egos. We’re starting to dabble in video production as well, which has been lots of fun for us. We all have day jobs and families that we love, but we love our music too so this gives us a chance to get creative.

Original music is a team sport… we’ve got a great team. All that’s missing is YOU. If this sounds at all intriguing… drop me a line we’ll exchange some music samples and see where it leads.

Great Fun at Sonic-Rocket Night

We had a good time playing the Sonic-Rocket night at Aztec Brewery with our pals the Ron Franklin band and the Satellite Sons. There were a few technical difficulties but we pressed on through them and had a lot of fun. Thanks to Daniel Salas, Kenzie Espinoza-Finch, and James Berry for their excellent help. Big thanks to our friends and neighbors who came out to be part of the fun!
